Secret Walls: A Live Digital x Physical Art Battle on Creative Cloud™ Presented by Adobe®
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

The gloves are off, the threat is real and the challenge is on for the design heavyweights of the world to assemble an army. Each will gather their creative tools and face off to unleash their skills as we search for the supreme champions of competitive live art. Monorex, a design lab and network, will join us in sunny Miami Beach all the way from gloomy London to lead the first-ever “Secret Walls” art battle merging digital and physical art to the beats of great music. Using Adobe® Creative Cloud™ before a live audience, two teams of experienced artists will compete for your winning vote in the creation of a live art piece.
  • 3:15pm:
Pocketography: It’s Not The Size of the Camera, But How You Use It Presented by iStockphoto
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

Each one of us is walking around with a phone in our pocket that’s capable of capturing really rad photos. So rad that they can even rival professional SLR photos; proving that the best camera really is the one you have with you at all times. Andrew “Dizz” Delaney, Getty Images Director of Creative Content, will explore this democratization of photography. Dizz works closely with photographers, filmmakers and art directors around the globe. He will share some of the best mobile photos he’s seen and engage you in what makes them so great. Then we’ll dig into our own pockets to have some fun putting those tips into action. What better backdrop than Miami Beach?
  • 4:30pm:
The Invisible Metric: Finding Beauty in Simple Interaction with Contagious’ Nick Parish
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Nick Parish

There are thousands of ways to measure interaction, but none to measure beauty. A refined gut sense and great taste are the currency thousands of creative people use to develop the style that keeps them in business. But how do the best of them try to quantify beauty when it comes to digital products and simple interactions? Contagious' Nick Parish explores the new paradigm of marketing—where the products we're selling are no longer as physical as they used to be, and how the subtle expressions of product capabilities are redefining how we conceive of excellence in craft.
  • 5:30pm:
    FREE TIME

We welcome you to enjoy a cool drink and get to know each other in the Creative Register Cabana at the gorgeous W South Beach pool, as well as to explore the beaches, experience the shopping of South Beach, check out The Wolfsonian and other local museums, and get ready for an evening of fun!
  • 7-10pm:
    OPENING NIGHT POOL PARTY PRESENTED
    by MARTIN GUITAR
    Featuring artist Keaton Simons
    and social instigation by theatreMAMA
W South Beach Private Pool + Lawn

    Martin & Co.
Light hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served.

    Keaton Simons

Keaton Simons is truly what the Los Angeles Times terms “a triple threat.” He captivates audiences with an authentic voice, compelling and soul-baring songs, and a true command of both acoustic and electric guitars in every genre. That’s why Martin Guitar chose this former Maverick and CBS Records artist to serenade the attendees of the Festival at the Opening Night Pool Party. Join ADC, Martin Guitar and Keaton for some cool drinks and smokin’ hot tunes. Keaton will be playing a 00DB Jeff Tweedy acoustic guitar by Martin Guitar as he previews his highly-anticipated album (releasing April 30, 2013 on his newly formed label, Best Revenge Records, and distributed by ADA Warner Music Group), including the first single and title track, “Beautiful Pain.”
April 3
  • Registration open all day at W South Beach, Official Headquarters of the Festival

  • 10am:
    YOUTUBE ASSOCIATIONS with Rafaël Rozendaal
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Rafaël Rozendaal

Rafaël Rozendaal uses the Internet as his canvas, creating sites that are themselves art pieces. A Dutch-Brazilian visual artist, Rozendaal’s artistic practice consists of websites, installations, drawings, writings and lectures. Rozendaal also invented Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB), an open-source, DIY curatorial format where artists are invited to bring their own projectors to a one-night exhibition and, together, to explore the medium of projection—moving light, sound and performance. Rozendaal will share the story of some of his work and then launch one YouTube video. What video, you will not know. What association that video will inspire in you and those around you, you will not know. But you will soon see, as an entire room builds upon each other’s visual associations to a crescendo of crazy, funny and moving short pieces of film.
  • 11:15am:
    Building Blocks of Inspiration
    with Sean Kenney
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Sean Kenney

Some people never abandon their childhood imaginations, people like New York-based artist, LEGO® Certified Professional and self-titled “Professional Kid” Sean Kenney. For more than 30 years, Kenney has been turning LEGO bricks into sculptures, personalized gifts for people around the world, and corporate commissions for brands like Google®, Mazda®, Nintendo®, JP Morgan Chase and Samsung®. He is also the author of the best-selling building guide for kids, Cool Cars and Trucks, and runs MOCpages.com, the world’s largest LEGO fan community. Kenney will invite your inner kid into the workshop room where you can live out your childhood dream job. Expect to get into the mix and start laying little bricks.

Confronting the Greatest of Our Challenges with Bruce Mau
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Bruce Mau

Bruce Mau has spent a lifetime immersed in—and as a leader in—the field of design, currently as Co-Founder and Director of Massive Change Network. In his groundbreaking work, Incomplete Manifesto for Growth, Bruce articulated an empowering new leadership methodology designed to provoke a reimagination of one’s personal vision for tomorrow. Mau will take Festival attendees in Miami Beach through an introduction of his life’s work in design thinking, and its application toward our new, shared global condition of massive change. Through a series of experiences, Bruce will introduce workshop attendees to the power of design: Design is leadership, the process by which we envision a desired future—and craft the means to get there.
  • 3pm:
    FREE TIME

We welcome you to enjoy a cool drink and get to know each other in the Creative Register Cabana at the gorgeous W South Beach pool, as well as to explore the beaches, experience the shopping of South Beach, check out The Wolfsonian and other local museums, and get ready for an evening of fun!
  • 6-10pm:
ADC DESIGN NIGHT CELEBRATION with OLIVIERO TOSCANI
The Wolfsonian Museum, 1001 Washington Avenue, South Beach

A night honoring the winners of an ADC Gold Cube for Illustration, Design, Photography and Print Advertising work, hosted by keynote speaker and world-renowned photographer Oliviero Toscani.

    Oliviero Toscani

He is the creative mind behind many a successful and awarded advertising campaign, bringing previously little-known brands to the forefront of culture and conversation. But he’s not an advertiser. Oliviero Toscani is a world-renowned photographer. No stranger to raising awareness through his photographs, Toscani’s work represents his time, and many an issue therein. Whether his campaigns for Benetton or his captures for other global brands, Toscani’s photographs gave a face—and a new unavoidable reality—to anorexia, AIDS victims, gay rights and capital punishment.

Despite his success in the world of advertising, Toscani hates marketing. He will shake things up with his experienced-yet-fresh global perspective, as host and keynote speaker at the ADC Design Night Celebration at The Wolfsonian.

  • 10am:
How to Make Mistakes on Purpose with Laurie Rosenwald
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Laurie Rosenwald

Laurie Rosenwald, the world’s most commercial artist and sole proprietor of rosenworld, wants you to make mistakes. On purpose. But she’s not going to tell you how until you attend her workshop. What will she tell you? That it’s not a creativity workshop. What will she ask of you? To respect the “mafia code of silence” that only those who’ve experienced the goods are privy to. Who should do this? Well, Laurie’s workshop has been taught to writers, filmmakers, musicians, market researchers, salespeople, real estate agents, investment bankers, webmasters, Swedish royalty and moms. But it’s also good for designers, art directors, copywriters, illustrators, photographers, filmmakers, creative technologists, CEOs, managing directors, creative directors and you.
  • 11:15am:
One Red Paperclip with Kyle MacDonald
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Kyle MacDonald

Have you ever heard of the guy who traded a red paper clip for a house? Kyle MacDonald is that guy. Inspired by a childhood game, MacDonald took the first thing on his desk and began an online-meets-offline journey, dubbed One Red Paperclip, of trading up to bigger and better things until he landed himself with a house. MacDonald is into outlandish projects—the kind that take on a life of their own, garner a lot of attention and most importantly, instigate big results. He will tell the tale of the One Red Paperclip project and then engage all workshop attendees in thinking of bigger and better ideas of your own.
  • 12:30pm:
    NETWORKING LUNCH BREAK

  • 2pm:
BUILDING A MONOGRAM with JON CONTINO
W South Beach, 2201 Collins Avenue, South Beach

    Jon Contino

May we introduce you to your first Alphastructaesthetitologist? Jon Contino, an esteemed ADC Young Gun (YG9), traces his earliest inspiration to his first breath, when street art and corporate mass marketing began to influence him. Contino now divides his time between freelance illustration and leadership, as Co-Founder/Creative Director of menswear brand CXXVI Clothing Company. Contino will bring his unique approach to design, which uses hand-drawn lettering, typographic illustration and a blend of old-world and new-world aesthetics, to his workshop. In “Building a Monogram,” you’ll explore the anatomy of a monogram, discuss with Contino how to use monograms for design elements and logos, and examine their ability to expand the boundaries of our perception of typography and lettering.

W South Beach

Where else would the ADC 92nd Annual Awards + Festival of Art and Craft in Advertising and Design call "home" than a hotel and property with its own world-class art collection? A festival dedicated to the art and craft that binds together the visual communications industries would naturally be surrounded by original Warhol's, Basquiat's and Hirst's, right? The Art Directors Club thinks so, which is why W South Beach is the Official Headquarters of the Festival, where all workshops, pool parties and cabanas will be hosted.

Shore Club

Guests of the Festival will also be hosted within the walls of the sexy, modern Miami Beach boutique hotel, Shore Club, just steps away from the Official Headquarters at W South Beach. Shore Club, aside from being known for its stunning pool, has an Art Deco vibe with architecture by famed British Modernist David Chipperfield and a labyrinth gardens inspired by Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh. The legendary Nobu restaurant delights guests with classic Japanese cuisine. Oh, and did we mention the stunning pool?
